Following her acclaimed exhibition at the Katzen Art Museum in 2015 - Free Fall Flow – Micheline Klagsbrun turns to the darker side of the botanical world in her new show titled Blossoms of Loss and Desire. Comprising paintings, works on paper, and mixed-media sculptures, this exhibition marks another subtle shift in her approach towards even more fluid and translucent forms and compositions.
In this series of works, she explores the processes of growth, bloom and decay in nature. Her point of departure is Darwin’s treatise on the sex life and reproductive organs of orchid. Nature is beautiful but also dark in its power. Blooming is an unstable process that can sometimes result in collapse. Tree branches push forward, penetrate and invade.

GALA AND AUCTION
September 12, 2012
As a benefit to raise funds for patients with head and neck cancer, invited artists created work using the radiation masks that immobilize the patients during treatment. My mixed-media work entitled “Calligraphy of the old Leaves is dancing” (from a Dylan Thomas poem), invests the mask with a spirit that resists immobilization.
